In case you didn’t know the third movie of Transformers titled Dark of the Moon is coming out on June 29th. As much as we would like to see it, I don’t think we will be able to make it this time around. We will have to wait until the movie comes out on DVD more than likely. Nevertheless, Hasbro Canada has numerous toys based on the movie for your kids.
First before I present the product that Hasbro Canada has sent me, I need to show you the wonderful box that contained the products.
Isn’t it a wonderful idea for sending products to a reviewer? I am quite impressed to say the least.
The box even opens up as though it was a transporter truck…! Isn’t it awesome? A perfect box that can be reuse for a birthday!
Speechless. This is how I am right now as I look at the box itself. But this review is not about the packaging that I have received.
So here are the products that was included in the box I have received.
Transformers MechTech Action Figures
The MechTech toy line is introducing the new Transformers action figures. Each Transformers MechTech action figure comes with a unique converting MechTech weapon that is interchangeable with all other core Transformers MechTech figures. MechTech weapons can connect to each other or to Transformers figures to “power” them up. They change from vehicle-mode to battle-ready robot mode. As the battle rages on, keep converting them back and forth, so they're ready to face whatever their enemies throw at them!
We received the Bumblebee MechTech action figure which is part of the Leader collection. My boys have not seen any of the Transformers movie yet but they know about them via other sources like comics and television shows. They love Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. I personally like Bumblebee. This Transformers has grabbed my heart from the first movie. What my kids likes the most about the Transformers line of toys is that they can transform the toy form vehicle to robot in a matter of seconds. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised to see my husband or some friends visiting us playing with this particular item (right Tyler?).
Transformers Cyberverse Line
Race into battle with these 3-in-1 converting action sets! Your mighty figures change from ground-vehicle mode to aerial vehicle mode to battle base mode and back again. With launching missiles in both battle base and aerial vehicle mode, you and your fearless-looking figures can be ready for anything
the enemy forces can dish out! As the battle rages on, keep converting back forth and keep your enemies guessing.
This particular toy is very flexible is you can see for yourself. Again from vehicles to a Robot reading to fight the Decepticons, your child will have a blast with these toys. Again we received the Bumblebee Mobile Battle Bunker to promote. I am impressed with the details included in this toy from the bright colors to the fact that it can convert itself easily.
And the “piece de resistance” for movie fans around the world – The Robo Power Cine-Mask which will allow you child to watch a ReadD 3-D movie at theaters close to you.
With this mask, your child should be ready to role-playing with more than meets the eye! Transformers fans can gear up and roll out with this Transformers Cine-Mask 3D Mask for an all-new, one-of-a-kind experience next time they go to the movie. Each role-pla mask – offered in Optimus Prime and Bumblebee style – functions as a "battle mask” to play out the Transformers fantasy as one of the Autobot characters. But it can also be worn while watching a movie at a ReadD 3D movie theater since it is equipped with RealD 3D lenses. You have to verify at your theater if they are offering movies with the RealD 3D technology.
I think this mask is out-of-this-world and will be popular with many fans. It would be different than wearing the regular pair of glasses offered in theater for sure. I can only imagine fans going to watch Transformers Dark of the Moon with these mask when it comes out in theaters… My only disappointment is that I won’t be able to bring my child to go watch a RealD 3-D movie. Why? Simply because I am one of many who have side effects after watching a RealD 3-D movie. I’ve experienced it while watching some movies back in the spring and will not attempt to watch another one just to see if I will have the same problem. Believe me when I say it isn’t fun whatsoever. And since my husband doesn’t particularly like 3D movies either, I don’t see my kids going to a 3D movie in a near future (unless the grand-parents bring them that is!).
Needless to say, I am impressed with the Robo Power Cine-Mask and how you can use it. Not only, you can use it as pretend play, but you can wear it to watch a RealD 3D movie. I applause the people who thought of putting such an item on the market. Goodbye boring sunglasses and hello originality! Now I wonder what other type of mask will come out in the months to come.
Having three boys and a girl in the family, I know that I will have to determine who will use this mask whenever they want to play with it. Each will have a turn that’s for sure.
All these wonderful toys from the line of Transformers Dark of the Moon are available at your favourite toy store.

OREO cookies anyone?
Every time we go to the US, I am amazed by the products you can get at the grocery store…
Take the OREO cookies for example…
We do have some in Canada – Regular, Double Stuff, Golden. And once in a while you will see the mint flavored.
But in the US…. wow! So many more choices. And I just love their packaging.
On the left – the Canadian packaging with could be a pain when the part to close the bag get unglued…
On the right – the American packaging open up and close with a self resealing process. Isn’t it amazing?
A few weeks ago, we were in the US and got the following flavors – Peanut butter (not my piece of cake but the kids like them!), Heads or Tails (with one chocolate cookie and one Golden one on each side) and the Summer one with the blue stuffing in it. Yummy!
Here’s an example of the packaging in the US. The bag is much smaller but contain numerous cookies. And opening it is so much easier that the Canadian version… To close it – simply bring back the section that opens back on the package and sealed it all around. Voilà! A two years old could do it…
And so much easier to stack in our cupboards… See the difference in the packages. Two of the American packages are equivalent to one from Canada.
It’s decided – when we go back in the US I will get more OREO cookies with their cool packaging and cool colors! And I will try to find other OREA products that we don’t have in Canada.
Mr. Christie, please do bring more fun OREO cookies to Canadians…
Disclaimer: I have not received any payment or products for this post. I just thought it was interesting that my American friends would have more products and cool packages compare to the ones we can find here in Canada.
Lola’s Magic Cube
Lola’s Magic Cube
Created by Beiz
About the app
Now Lola Panda is back with an all new and fun children’s education puzzle game. Lola’s monkey friend has accidently used Lola’s magic wand and mixed up the magic cube. Now Lola needs your help to solve the puzzles and put the cube back in the correct order. Use the magic wand to solve each magic cube puzzle and progress on to ever more challenging puzzles.
Designed with younger children in mind, children as young as 3 can enjoy solving the easier puzzles. Older children – up to 7 years old – will find there is enough challenge in the higher levels to entertain them as well. This game is designed to develop children’s visual, mental and concentration skills while having fun.
Our Thoughts
My First reaction when I first saw this app was that I didn’t like the fact that Lola the Panda was dressed as a witch. Magic doesn’t have to always be represented with a witch I find. But this is only a personal preference.
This little app is essentially a way for children to solve puzzles. Kid’s as young as three years old will have a blast to resolve the little puzzle that Lola will bring up for them! There are three levels of difficulty associated with this app; easy, medium and hard.
My daughter, who is three years old, has started with the easy level and quickly completed it. She then proceeded to attack the medium level which contains more squares for her to put together. What is interesting is that not only you can move the squares but you can twist them to put the at the proper place. A piece of the puzzle can be at the proper place but not at the proper position (example it is upside-down…). The challenge of putting the puzzle together get harder as you advance in the app.
The graphic are of high quality and when you complete the puzzle fun animations appears. You have six faces to complete one level of the cube before advancing to the next level.
I find the creators behind this app have though of a fun way to motivate the kids to do puzzles on the device. It is challenging and fun at the same time.
The app is available in various languages; English Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Dutch. The game uses the default language on your iPhone/iPod/iPad device. However, you can play the game with any of the available six languages by changing the device language setting (Settings – General – International – “language”). Personally, I would prefer to have the control of the language via the app.
Lola’s Magic Cube is available on iTunes for the price of 99 cents. This app is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
I have received 5 promo codes for this app.
Leave me the reason why you would like this app as well as your mailing address and I will send it to you! The first five people doing so, will receive a promo code for Lola’s Magic Cube. US and Canada only.

Written by Julie Cave
Published at MasterBook
About the book

FBI agent Dinah Harris now has a missing person's file to go along with a bad case of alcohol abuse and the depression she cannot seem to shake. Fighting to keep her focus, she struggles to find answers for why Thomas Whitfield, the prominent Secretary of the Smithsonian has vanished from his office with foul play almost guaranteed. Whitfield's body is eventually found, and Dinah is drawn into a frightening conspiracy, as more people begin to die, and Whitfield's faith is revealed as part of the motive behind his murder. Dinah finds troubling answers in an academic world filled with powerful financial endowments and a virulent opposition to the faith Whitfield only recently found. Can she reveal the truth before she finds herself the next silenced victim of a ruthless, unseen enemy?
First in a powerful new fiction trilogy!
Who is Julie Cave?
Julie Cave is a Christian Australian author determined to share the authority of the Bible and love of God. By writing fiction, she teaches both the Christian and skeptic the power of God's word and the saving love of Christ.
My Thoughts
From the beginning pages of this novel I was hooked on the story and on the characters. For a while you wonder what happened in the life of one of the main characters but you quickly deduct it while reading. A confirmation surfaces at the end of the book where you learn the history of this character. Needless to say, I didn’t know what to expect from this book but mystery, murders, investigation all intertwined together made it a book that I couldn’t put down… Now I am looking forward to read book two which is already on my night table and book three which I suspect is somewhere in limbo in our mailing system (since our postal service is on strike… sigh).
If you like novels that will keep you on the edge of what is happening and mystery, you will definitively be blessed with this first book of the Dinah Harris Mystery. You have Christian content, a fight between evolutionist and creationist, murders that seems to be coming from all angles and two very dedicated FBI agents who are looking for the truth.
While you read this book, you can feel and sense the research that the author Julie Cave has done. Not only does the mystery is well written but all the Christian arguments presented are true, straight and easy to understand.
This book would be a perfect novel to bring while on vacation. And I can tell you that when you will finish it, you will want more… Fortunately, this is the first book of a trilogy – Dinah Harris Mystery. Other titles in this trilogy are: The Shadowed Mind and Pieces of Light.
Deadly Disclosures is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca.

Stella and Sam
Stella and Sam Backyard Twilight
By zinc Roe
About the app
Play alongside Stella and Sam and their dog Fred as they spend a night camping out in their backyard. Look for bugs in the tent, discover constellations among the stars and learn about shapes with the fireflies. From zinc Roe games, the makers of the award-winning Tickle Tap Apps, the Stella and Sam Interactive Adventures combine stunning animation with three elegantly-designed activities.
STELLA: “The night Giant is coming Sam. I think I can hear his big footsteps coming over the meadow.”
SAM: “I can too!”
The Stella and Sam Apps are based on the television show and the bestselling picture book series by Marie-Louise Gay. Stella and Sam books have been translated into fifteen languages. They have sold over one million copies and are loved by children all over the world.
each Stella and Sam Adventure features beautiful fullscreen animation , three fun and simple games, quick navigation by chapter and game as well as support for English and French .
Our Thoughts
Jasmine adores the Stella and Sam apps that we have. So when she saw that there was a new one to review she was jumping up and down and kept asking “I want to hear the story!”. I have previously reviewed In the Snow We Go as well as Rainy Days and Rainbows so I knew what to expect from this app.
This time around, I decided that I wanted to see the app in French. So I went to change the language settings of our iPad and proceeded to listen to the story. I am impressed with the translation of the story to say the least. However, having to change the language directly from the settings on the device is a pain I find. I would love to have the flexibility to choose the language directly from the app instead of having to change the language of the entire device. I love having French apps but the flexibility of switching between the language has a value for me as well.
Having said this, I would like to present you the Stella and Sam Backyard Twilight app. This time around Stella and Sam are camping in their backyard and plan to sleep there for the night. It reminded me when our tent was up in our backyard and I slept there. It was a time where you didn’t have to worry much about bad events happening, where I could drive my bike without a helmet, where I had to walk to go to school without worrying much, where kids would go back home for lunch time, and when television programs were cleaned for kids. I am pleased to see that the Stella and Sam television show is very good for kids.
The first activity that your child will have to do will be to find the bugs inside the tent. With the help of your flashlight, you need to cover the area to explore and discover the bugs that entered the tent. Then you have an activity where your child will have to play with fireflies to create a fun picture. This time around though, the fireflies are always drawing the same picture which I won’t reveal to you. Personally, I would have liked more drawings to be done by the fireflies but in the context of this app, this one is good.
Stella and Sam are also exploring the stars and using the stars your child will explore what image will come out of them. This time around you can discover multiple pictures from the Night Giant. Finally the Stella and Sam go to bed. Jasmine always say “Goodnight!” to them. Cute.
As I have mentioned before these apps are part app part video. It is perfect to use when you are waiting at an appointment to the doctor or dentist. Their graphics and frames are simply well designed and colorful for the children. I adore sitting next to my daughter and watch her play with her Stella and Sam apps. I highly recommend them to everyone who have toddlers and preschoolers.
Stella and Sam Backyard Twilight is available for purchase at iTunes for the price of 2.99$
Keep you eye open for another Stella and Sam title coming soon. Go-There-Square will explore magical places outside.

Noah’s Ark
Noah’s Ark – An Interactive Children’s Bible Tale
Produced by TabTale
About the App
This classical biblical storybook of Noah and the ark provides hours of pleasure through its beautifully told storyline, sublime graphics and fascinating interactive activities and scenes.
God tells Noah to build an ark for him and his family in preparation for the great flood that will cover the earth. God also instructs Noah to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, along with every kind of food to be stored while on the ark. Noah obeys everything God commands him to do.
After they entered the ark, rain fell on the earth for a period of forty days and nights and flooded the earth. As the waters receded, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Noah and his family continued to wait while the surface of the earth dried out. Finally, a dove came back with an olive branch, in sign of dry land. Noah and the animals disembark and disperse over the earth.
The story book re-enacts this beautiful bible tale with engaging interactive activities on every page. Help Noah build the ark. Help the animals embark and listen to their names. Guess which animal it is in the dark from the sound it makes. Navigate the ark, and many more interactions to keep the entire family engaged.
Bible Tale - Noah's Ark is part of a line of rich interactive storybooks by TabTale.
Our Thoughts
First and foremost, I am happy that TabTale is making apps based on stories of the Bible. The colorful pages have help my daughter to stay attentive during the story. The creators have also included many special interaction throughout the story.
However, I am disappointed that the story is not told the way it is mentioned in the Bible. God has brought the animals not Noah’s family. God has close the door of the ark not Noah. The story mentions that the ark was built in two days – such a construction would have take longer than that and the Bible doesn’t mention the length of time associated with the construction of the ark. And the story mentioned that Noah’s helped people around him. There is no such mentioned in the Bible but it does says that Noah was
a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. Genesis 6:9
While you go through the story, you can see the corruption of the people at the beginning of the story. But the text doesn’t go with what you see. I am disappointed that some information was added to the text of the Bible. Personally I would have preferred that the story be accurate and not changed as I find important to teach the truth to my children.
As I mentioned earlier, interaction is present in all the reading options you have on this app – Auto Play, Read it Myself and Read to Me. I am quite pleased with the quality and the level of interaction included on each pages. It is impressive to see that the creators behind this app have thought of putting a long list of
animals to go in and out of the ark. There is even a guessing game where you have to name the animals in the darkness of the ark by the noise they make. When you are done, click on the lamp to discover which ones were there.
The Read to Me will automatically read each page of the story to your child. The Auto Play automatically reads the book to you and turn the pages. It is perfect for younger children. The Read it Myself however will allow the child to control the reading himself.
This app is well done and will be entertaining. As a Christian parent, I will sit down with my children and point out the disparities between this story and what is written in the Bible.
Noah’s Ark is available directly from iTunes for the price of 99 cents.
The whole story of Noah can be found in the book of Genesis 6:1-9:17.

CARS 2 Games
This week on June 24th, the new CARS movie will come out. As parents, we are always on the lookout for fun and entertaining movies that are clean at the same time. Our kids enjoyed so much the first movie of CARS that we are looking forward for CARS 2 coming out this Friday! Shhh! Don’t tell our kids but if everything goes well with our plan, we might bring them to the theater to watch the movie.
Hasbro Canada has teamed up with CARS 2 to bring some interesting new versions of popular games like MONOPOLY, MEMORY, SORRY!, TROUBLE and OPERATION.
I had the privilege to get these various games. And I will comment on each of them in this post but I most say that I am impressed with the creativity behind each and every one of these games. Hasbro has done a great job to adapt some popular games to the theme of the movie.
MONOPOLY Disney Pixar CARS 2 Edition
Race to “real estate” victory with characters from the Cars 2 movie! Buy and trade cars in this fast-paced game to try to earn the most money. Speed your way around the board, build up monopolies and—if you’re the richest player at the end of the game—win!
Fast-dealing cars trading game challenges you to “speed” your way to victory with Cars 2 characters! Pick up and trade cars in Japan, Italy and London!
Includes 1 racetrack (in 4 pieces), 1 Lightning McQueen racecar, 1 gameboard, 16 Cars cards, 16 tires, 8 Pitties, 4 character movers, 16 Chance chards, money pack and instructions.
Adult assembly required. For 2 to 4 players.
My Thoughts
Gone the square board game and hello to the round one! This board will be attractive for all children ages five and up. For this version of the game, the goal is to have the most cars. I think the idea od buying and trading cars is very different that the original game which allows you to buy fair activities. In a way it is also a good way to tell your kids that some people do buy cars, collect them and/or restore them if it is needed. How about bringing your kids to a car show to show older models of vehicles before or after playing this game? Our campsite, Logos Land Resort, has a yearly Car Show for antique, classic and performance vehicles.
The Monopoly Cars 2 edition is particularly original because you have Lighting McQueen driving around the racetrack. You also have tires and pitties to build as well as four fun characters to play with. Everything has been though to perfectly fit the world of Cars! It will definitively be a Monopoly game that the kids will have a blast to play with.
SORRY! Sliders Disney Pixar Cars 2 Edition
Race your friends your own cool racetracks! Rev through Radiator Springs, tear through Tokyo, power through Porta Corsa and rip through London. But watch out! Oil slicks, traffic cones and radiation zones make it a bumpy ride to victory. It’s time to put your sliders skills into top gear!
Contents: Track pieces, Barriers, 4 racers, Assorted obstacles, Lap counter tokens, Mater token, Sticker sheet, Game guide. 2-4 players.
My Thoughts
This game will provide hours of fun for your family. Not only the game of Sorry has been adapted to the movie, but the racetrack itself can be built according to your own design (within limits). On the box itself, you can see four different tracks to play the game. Your sliders will face many challenges and obstacles during the game – oil slicks, traffic cones, bumping barriers… it’s all there. What a great way to transform the game of Sorry and to add fun to a family game night. I suspect that laughter and competition will be part of the evening as well. I can already feel the competition that will be ferocious in our home… Who will have the skills and ability to bring their sliders to the winning line? And adult or a child? Plan to have a lot of spaces when playing with Sorry! Sliders Disney Pixar Cars 2 Edition as some of the tracks that can be designed will take quite a bit of area on your table or on your floor.
REV your engine for a speedy match! Kick start your memory as you try to match picture cards of your Cars 2 buddies. Each match puts your car on a straight course for the finish line. It’s Lightning McQueen against Francesco! Zoom and win the checkered flag!
Contents: 2 Character Pawns, 28 Picture Cards, Speedway Gameboard, Spectator Grandstand, Instructions. 1-2 players.
My Thoughts
Memory games as been part of my life when I was younger and still today with my kids. This specific came is geared for younger children but their siblings will probably have a blast with them while playing this version of Memory. Included in this version, you will have a racetrack and you can advance either Lightning McQueen or Francesco to see who will win the game. When your child can match two cards together, he/she can advance her pawn on the racetrack. To be honest, I find this version of the Memory game to be more geared toward boys than girls. My daughter would prefer to have a princess version or something more pink in colors than have race cars. I know that she loves the CARS movie but mostly because of the female characters in it.
TROUBLE Disney Pixar Cars 2 Edition
ARE YOU PRETTY GOOD AT THIS RACIN’ STUFF LIKE ME? ...LET’S SEE! Well, hey there fellow racers! Get ready for the ultimate dash to the finish! Watch out where you move – if you crash into your opponent you can send ‘em back home. But be careful ‘cause they can do the same to you. The first to get all 4 cars into Victory Lane wins!
FEATURING MATER AS THE POP-O-MATIC DIE-ROLLING BUBBLE!
Contents: 1 Plastic Game Unit with Mater POP-O-MATIC Die Roller, Gameboard, 16 Plastic Playing Pawns, 4 Rubber Gameboard Feet, Label Sheet, Instructions. 2-4 players.
My Thoughts
Here’s a new twist to the game of Trouble. Every time we play with the original version of TROUBLE, it reminds me of when I was playing TOCK (with marbles) or Parcheesi when I was younger. The idea of the game is similar. You have to bring your cars to Victory Lane without an opponent kicking you own of the competition. I love how the pop-o-matic has been redesigned to include Mater in the game. I find it adorable and very original. It is a great way to include a beloved character into The pawns have their own characters on it – Lightning McQueen is obviously part of this line up but other new cars are shown as well. This game is perfect to bring on vacation as well as at the cottage.
Mater here... can you fix up my busted gear? I can’t hit the road when so many parts are itchin’ for fixin’! Grab the tweezers & drive these parts away. It’s up to you to get ’er done; I’m in reverse and ready to run! What did I tell you ’bout touchin’ the sides? To not to!
Contents: Gameboard with Mater “Patient” and Tweezers, 22 Game Cards, 11 Plastic Funatomy Parts, Play Money, Storage Drawer, Instructions.
My Thoughts
This is the game that I am SO looking forward to play with. My husband has already advise me that I should expect been stressed a bit… I don’t care. I never had an OPERATION game when I was younger and always thought this game looked so cool.
First and foremost, I didn’t know that this game needed batteries – so plan in advance and when your purchase this game get four AAA batteries at the same time (just in case you don’t have any at home). And if this purchase is for a birthday, please do consider getting batteries for it as well – it is a thoughtful gesture for the child and his/her parents.
The goal of this game is to remove all the Funatomy inside Mater. *grin* I appreciate the fact that the length of the tweezers is long enough to cover the whole game. I majorly dislike it when it is not the case on other toys. Drive me nuts to be honest. Hasbro has thought about this and even included some hooks to put the cord away. Brilliant!
The Funatomy are the following – Missile Tow, Rattlin’ Gatling, Tow Jam, Oh Chute, Bad Gas, Da Bomb, Spare Tire, Leaky Oil, Busted Grill, Broken Belt and Bed Bugs. Using the tweezers you objective is to remove these Funatomy without touching the metal side of their respective holes. If you do, Mater’s headlight will light up and he’ll make more noise than a tipped tractor!
You can get one of the three sets of cards while playing; Discard, Specialist or Doctor. When you are successful with a specialist or doctor card, you receive payment for your services.
The creators behind this fun game have thought of including a little compartment on the side of the game to store the Funatomy pieces. Now you can be sure that all the pieces will stay with the game when they are stored properly.
This game will also help your kids (and yourself) to develop dexterity, patience and precision while you remove the Funatomy. It will also help the players to work under pressure as you most not touch the sides while “operating” on Mater. The single fact that the creators have decided to go with Mater for this game is wonderful – after all he is rusted and could need some improvements isn’t he?
I am so looking forward to discover this game of OPERATION and have fun with my family while playing it. This is another great game to bring at camping or on vacation for rainy days. With a game like this – time will fly by you without you noticing it!
Did you know that there are many different version of OPERATION? I sure didn’t… The original one can still be found everywhere but you can also find the Shrek, Toy Story 3, My First Operation for younger kids , and an Iron Man edition.
There is also a PICTUREKA! Cars 2 Card Game which I had not received but am drooling on… I just love the Pictureka! games and would love to add this one to ones we have (Disney and regular version).
As you can see Hasbro Canada has plenty of choice of games based on the CARS 2 movie. You can definitively find something for your family through all these choices. If you have never try one of the original versions of these games, I would suggest that you consider getting the ones based on the CARS 2 movie. All these products are available at your favourite toy store.

My Thoughts
I love recipe books – don’t ask me why though. Maybe it is because my mom would buy some while I was growing up. Problem is even though you buy recipe books because of the pictures in it, it is rare that you make more than one or two recipes from it.
Recently, my husband and I watched Julie and Julia which we loved (my in-laws started it when they babysat for our anniversary and couldn’t stand it… *grin* funny how a movie could be captivating for some and totally annoying for others!). It made us think about trying new recipes on a regular basis. This time, I’ve decided to try a recipe from The Illustrated Kitchen Bible.
This cookbook is packed with over one thousand family recipes and lots of pictures. Each and every recipe in this book has a picture showed the end result of the recipe.
I had decided to do the Honey Mustard Barbecued Chicken even though I didn’t had all the ingredients. I improvised a bit I will admit. The recipe is asking for balsamic vinegar to marinate the chicken but unfortunately my bottle was almost empty. So I compensated with cider vinegar. Both were vinegar, both were tangy and sweet at the same time. Perfect!
The chicken marinated for about 24 hours – give or take – in the fridge in a container that I regularly flipped to make sure that all the chicken thighs would be soaked in thoroughly.
On Father’s Day, my in-laws came over for supper and we cooked the chicken on the BBQ. During the afternoon, there has been lots of commotion on my street as a house was burning. About ten fire trucks came not counting the police cars and paramedics. Fortunately, nobody was hurt as the family and their pets were not present at the time.
But because of the events on our normally quiet neighborhood, I had forgotten that I needed a glaze for the recipe. OUPS!
Nevertheless, the chicken was delicious and very tasty. Everyone agreed that the recipe was a success. *grin*
The Illustrated Kitchen Bible will cover every type of recipes you can hope to find in a recipe book.

- Fruits and Jellies
Also at the various mains sections you will have a recipe choosers which present you various recipes in that section with mouth-watering pictures accompanied with the title of the recipe, the time needed to make it as well as the page where the recipe is located. If you are in a rush, these pages are life savers for you. If you are more like me, you will prefer to sit down and flip through the pages of this huge recipe book to find the recipe that will grab your heart.
The book also contains a section titled techniques in which you can learn various techniques in cooking. You can learn to poach an egg properly, how steam, chop, prepare fruits and vegetables and so much more.
My favourite part of the book is that I can find recipes from around the world and be able to do it for my family. Some recipes do have the information of the country included but not all of them. It is a little bit disappointing not to know where a recipe comes from. For example, the recipe I made over the week-end didn’t tell me where this recipe originated. I would have loved to know that. I also think that including the flag of the country next to the recipe would be a nice added touch to the cookbook seeing that it contains international recipes.
To be honest, I think this book is the perfect gift for a bride-to-be, a child leaving home for college/university or to teach your kids about cooking. It is a wonderful book to have in your own kitchen.
As for us, we will continue to explore our taste-buds and try new recipes using this cookbook as well as other ones we have at home. You won’t be disappointed with the quality and the quantities of recipes in this cookbook!
The Illustrated Kitchen Bible is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca.

Star Wars Clone Wars The Visual Guide
Published at DK Canada
About the book
Since the first time we heard Luke Skywalker ask Obi-Wan Kenobi “You fought in the Clone Wars!?” in Episode IV: A New Hope, fans the world over have been wondering exactly what the Clone Wars were and what clones in combat would look like. On August 15th, 2008, with the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, much will be explained. The Clone Wars take place between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Lucasfilm is now bringing the wars to life in an all-new CGI animated series.
The theatrical release will launch this groundbreaking computer-generated animated series, which will then debut on Cartoon Network and TNT in the fall. New characters like female Padawan Ahsoka Tano join old favorites Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and others as the Jedi cross lightsabers with the dark side yet again.
Our Thoughts
My kids are completely nuts about Star Wars clone Wars. They have seen the first two seasons of television shows and are waiting patiently that season three comes out in DVD (you see we don’t have cable…).
They eat, drink, dream and live to play with their Star Wars Lego. They grab Star Wars books anytime they want. They pretend play as though they are in Star Wars.
I guess we have created Star Wars monsters… Seriously though I am pleased to see them passionate about something that started back in the 70s. Star Wars was part of our growing up my husband and I. It is in the life of my kids now and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the life of my grand-kids one of these days.
So when a new book of Star Wars The Clone Wars came through the door – thanks to DK Canada – my kids were jumping up and down. Well my three years old daughter was because Ashoka Tano was on the cover. *grin*
The Star Wars The Clone Wars The Visual Guide is the guide to have to learn more about the various characters, ships, droids, and more from the first two seasons of the series. Yes – this doesn’t cover the third season… which means that eventually you can expect and updated version of the visual guide.
Still because my kids have to wait to watch the third season, this book is handy because they can read it (or get someone read it to them) to learn more about their beloved characters as well as the not so beloved ones.
I think my favourite droid is definitively R2-D2. In this book, you will get two pages dedicated on him. It is the kind of droid I would like to have with me – courageous, loyal, spirited, quirky… and he can come in handy every once in a while. My second favourite droid is C3-PO. I knew that C3-PO was fluent in many languages but this book indicates that he can communicate in six millions ways. I’m speechless (which is not something C3-PO would be able to do I think!).
This book is a good review of the first two seasons of the television series. Perfect for kids who wants to go through it and review what happened before they watch the third season when it comes out in DVD.
If you have a child who is passionate about Star Wars The Clone Wars, consider getting The Visual Guide.

Amish Prayers
Amish Prayers
Compiled by Beverly Lewis
Published at Bethany House
About the book
A One-of-a-Kind Collection of Inspiring Prayers Used by Amish and Mennonites for Over 300 Years!
The Amish and other Anabaptist groups have treasured the same book of prayers for centuries, turning to it for inspiration during times of peace as well as persecution. Now a selection of prayers from Die Ernsthafte Christenpflicht is readily available in English. This exclusive, authentic translation from the original German--with an introduction by bestselling author Beverly Lewis--pairs each prayer with a Scripture passage and offers insights into the rich spiritual foundations of the Plain people. Whether used for personal devotions or in a group setting, this beautifully illustrated collection will draw you closer to God.
Who is Beverly Lewis?
Beverly Lewis, born in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, is The New York Times bestselling author of more than eighty books. Her stories have been published in eleven languages worldwide. A keen interest in her mother's Plain heritage has inspired Beverly to write many Amish-related novels, beginning with The Shunning, which has sold more than one million copies and was recently made into an Original Hallmark Channel movie. In 2007 The Brethren was honored with a Christy Award. She has been interviewed by both national and international media, including Time magazine, the Associated Press, and the BBC. Beverly lives with her husband, David, in Colorado. Visit her Web site at www.beverlylewis.com for more information.
My Thoughts
I have been curious about the Amish life for quite some time. But until this year, I only had a glimpse of their lives via novels written by many popular authors. However, in 2011, I have received books that give me a better insight on how the Amish live their faith. Amish Prayers is such a book. The prayers are simple and quite direct. Yet they are beautifully written and inspiring.
Throughout the book, you will also see some drawings of the people or of items from their life like a rocking chair for example or canning supplies. Simple yet touching I find. I love the drawings. They are well done and show the modesty in clothing and accessories.
The book is small enough that you could bring it with you and dig into it anytime you need to. In it you will find prayers for a new day, for divine guidance, of gratitude, of repentance, for comfort, of praise, for strength, for purity of heart, for unity, of humility, of submission as well as prayers in the evening. Each prayer is accompanied by a scriptures.
I always love to have little books such as this one that I could refer to when my words are missing in my prayers. I love having a glimpse of prayers that the Amish would say. Their lifestyle seems to me so peaceful and such.
See for yourself what the book looks like.
Amish Prayers is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca.

God’s Love Letters to You
God’s Love Letters to You – A 40 Day Devotional Experience
Written by Larry Crabb
Published at Thomas Nelson
About the book
Experience a unique conversation with God through a daily devotional reading based on twenty Old Testament and twenty New Testament books of the Bible. Written to help the reader listen to what God is saying in His Word, God’s Love Letters to You offers a life-changing encounter with God through the story He is telling. Author Larry Crabb brings the big picture of God’s story into clearer focus, helping readers catch an enticing glimpse of how each of these forty books of the Bible advances the story. The goal? To lose our story in His.
Each day’s devotional includes:
-a selected Scripture reading
-a short devotional message
-reflection questions
-a closing prayer
Who is Larry Crabb?
Dr. Larry Crabb is a well-known psychologist, seminar speaker, Bible teacher, author, and founder/director of NewWay Ministries. In addition to various speaking and teaching opportunities, Dr. Crabb offers a week-long School of Spiritual Direction and a weekend conference, Life on the Narrow Road. He is also Scholar in Residence at Colorado Christian University, visiting Professor for Richmont University in Georgia, and serves as Spiritual Director for the American Association of Christian Counselors. His many popular books include Inside Out, Finding God, Becoming a True Spiritual Community, The PAPA Prayer, Soul Talk, and his life work, 66 Love Letters. For additional information visit www.newwayministries.org.
My Thoughts
Forty days to experience God’s love and to discover what He has to tell you through this devotional.
Each day start with a devotional written by Larry Crabb. The title itself is meaningful and will touch you to the core. A scripture is always mentioned before you get to the devotional. Then once you have read it, you can take a moment to reflect on your own life, on God and on how He is part of your life. Finally the daily reading is completed with a prayer which is based on the reading you have just completed. In all I would say that you will more than likely need 15 to 30 minutes to do the devotional depending of the time spend in your reflections.
This specific book is based on the previous title 66 Love Letters. Larry Crabb has taken forty selected passages from the book and added thought-provoking questions as well as a prayer to conclude the devotion. I find that it is a good book to get yourself in the habit of doing devotions on a daily basis. Once you have re-connect yourself with God with these love letters, you can pick another devotional that will help you to grow. I am enjoying these devotional and plan to go through it during the next month and a half. It is a great reminder that God loves us quite a bit and would do anything to keep us in His arms.
Discover your story in the midst of the great plan of God while going through this devotional.
God’s Love Letters to You – a 40 Day Devotional Experience is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca.

Hermie and Friends A Bug Collection Volume 3
Released by Thomas Nelson
About the DVDs
Some grumpy bees, silly ladybugs and a non-praying mantis . . . all from the best-loved Max Lucado's Hermie & Friends® series!
Your 3- to 8-year-olds can learn a lot from an uncommonly wise caterpillar and his not-so-creepy-crawly friends! This triple-feature boxed set includes Buzby and the Grumblebees, with a lesson about "bee-having"; Hailey and Bailey's Silly Fight, showing the importance of getting along; and Milo, the Mantis Who Wouldn't Pray, promoting---you guessed it!---prayer. Three-DVD boxed set, 3 hours total.
Enjoy the voice talents of Tim Conway, Melissa Disney, Richard Kind, and Sam Mercurio at their very best in this one-of-a-kind box set.
Our Thoughts
Hermie doesn’t need any introduction I think. It is a well done series that will provide teaching lessons to the kids via cute little bugs.
This particular collection contains 3 DVDs which will be the delight of your children or your Sunday School class.
The first disc contains a story titled Milo the Mantis Who Wouldn’t Pray. The story is all about prayer. Milo will learn how to talk to God through prayer after his Snack Shack is destroyed by a big storm.
The second disc is about how to behave – or should I say bee-have… *grin* Buzby has a problem on his hands – his nephew and niece are misbehaving royally. With the help of his friends, he plans a way to teach them a lesson.
Finally, on disc three the lesson is about how to get along with others. Two of the bugs living in the garden are fighting and everyone is taking sides.
Each lesson concludes with some wisdom from Max Lucado and Hermie. Both interact quite nicely in the garden and will strengthen the lesson learned during the episode.
My four kids, ages 3 to almost 10, enjoyed watching Hermie and Friends A Bug Collection Volume 3. They were quite excited when they saw that we had new episodes in the house. And I know that not only it would be entertaining for the whole family but a strong lesson is passed at the same time. As parents, I find it is important that we sit down and listen to it at the same time. This way you are more prepared on how to discuss it with your kids afterwards.
I think my favourite characters is definitively the ladybugs. But I most also admit that I am a little bit biased on the little creatures.
Hermie & Friends A Bug Collection 3 is available at Christianbook.com or amazon.com.

From where to find all the hidden Mickeys to the truth behind Madame Leota's ring at the Haunted Mansion, readers learn all about the hidden magic that permeates these fabulous resorts in this tell-all handbook. Readers also get the insider's take on:

- Walt Disney's opening day speech tapped out in Morse Code in Frontierland
- The eco-friendly benches (recycled milk jugs) in the Animal Kingdom
- Two versions of The Great Movie Ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios
Complete with secret tips from Disney's Imagineers, this book is the perfect in-park companion for Disney World fans.
Who is Susan Veness?
Susan Veness (Orlando, FL) is a travel writer, researcher and itinerary planner specializing in Florida, Disney, and the theme parks. A former online travel agent, she became principal research assistant for the UK's bestselling Brit's Guide travel series in 2002. She also writes for a wide variety of newspapers, magazines, and other media. She has been visiting Walt Disney World since it opened in 1971 and, with a home just minutes from The Mouse, she continues to tour the parks on a regular basis.
My Thoughts
After going through this book, I am so looking forward to be able to bring my kids to Walt Disney World and explore their secrets. I want to feel it, smell it, experience it with my family.
The book is divided in four major chapters;
- The Magic Kingdom – Main Street U.S.A., Fantasyland, Liberty Square, Frontierland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Mickey’s Toontown Fair, and Magic Kingdom’s Timeline.
- Epcot – Future World, World Showcase, and Epcot Timeline.
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, courtyard, Animation Courtyard, Pizar Studios, Streets of America, Commissary Lane, Echo Lake, Hollywood Hills Amphitheater, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios Timeline
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Entrance, The Oasis, Discovery Island, DinoLand U.S.A., Asia, Africa, Camp Minnie-Mickey, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Timeline.
When I went through the book, I could see that a lot of things have changed since the last time we went there during our honeymoon more than 13 years ago. Time flies… And I dream to bring my own kids to Walt Disney World.
The book will list a bunch of fun things to discover while you visit Walt Disney World. For example, before you enter the Cinderella Castle, look up.
An apartment suite was included in the original design of the castle, although Walt passed away before it was built. His brother Roy was offered the suite, but declined. It became a storage location and is now used as an area for castle performers to relax.
This in only an example of many other tidbits of information that can be found throughout the book about the four theme park that you can visit at Walt Disney World. One of the few things we saw while going to Walt Disney World back in 1998, was this electrical post next to the highway. I thought it was very original that someone has decided to do this.
Throughout the book you will also find fascinating fact about the theme parks. For example, did you know that…
Natural pest management is used throughout Walt Disney World. Disney releases 250,000 warrior insects – they get rid of harmful pests – each year, and even allows guests to take part via the Ladybug Release at Epcot. Interestingly enough, feral cats also roam Disney property, working hard to keep the rodent population down…
Knowing this I am wondering when the Ladybug Release is happening because you can bet that I would love to participate to this… It would be totally cool and I know for sure that my little ladybug would adore this too!
Bottom line, if you are a regular of Walt Disney World and would love to discover a new facet of the park, I suggest that you get yourself a copy of The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World. And if you are not a regular (like us), this book should also be in your luggage next time you decide to explore the park especially if you have kids with you. It would be a delight to discover Walt Disney with a guide book like this one.
As for us, I am keeping our copy because I know we will use it quite a bit on our next visit.
The Hidden magic of Walt Disney World is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca.

How to Move from Blogger to Wordpress: a compregensive guide so you don’t miss a step.
Written by Sharon Hujik
http://www.howtomovefrombloggertowordpress.com/
About the e-book
you are ready to make the move to WordPress, this is the guide you need! It outlines the exact steps to rewrite your permalinks, retain your back-links for SEO, keep your blog readers, and redirect your domain name.
My Thoughts
I’ve been considering switching my review blog to Wordpress for a couple of months. So when the opportunity to review an ebook on the subject came to my attention I was interested. Really interested as a matter of fact.
The author has divided her ebook in five important parts. Part 1 is all about introduction and what to expect. Part2 will guide you in the choice of self-hosting versus selecting a host. If you are already setup, I would say that self-hosting would be cheaper in the end. However, you have to make sure of certain setups… which caused me some problems (I will give more details later.). Part 3 will provide information on how you can customize WordPress for your own blog. Part 4 guides you through the transfer process and finally Part 5 explains how you can launch your blog with WordPress.
The author is concise in her explanations and has taken the time to illustrate with examples. The examples are essential I find has it gives you exactly what to expect in your screen. She will also explain in details what widgets and plugins are in easy to understand terms. She definitively cover everything on both side of the medal – BLOGGER and WORDPRESS – without loosing you in the process. I have seen other instructions books that didn’t have as many examples and that were not written in such a way. I tip my hat to Sharon because she made sure that anyone could go through this without problems.
I asked the author if I would loose my Google rating while doing the move. Here’s her answer.
The book will walk you through how to keep your backlinks, which is what Google Rank is based on. Therefore, the move should have no negative impact on your Page Rank. However, in about 50% of cases there is a transition period (because of the change of servers from Blogger to a new host) where your Page Rank will be an NA. This resolves naturally within two months.
Overall, WordPress will actually have a positive impact on your page rank, especially if you decide to purchase the premium themes which are optimized for SEO.
This is wonderful news if you asked me.
Then I decided to redesign my blog for WordPress using Artisteer. After I have done so, I proceeded to go through the book to move my blog. Unfortunately, at this time I have not completed the move. Why? It isn’t because of the ebook. Quite contrary, the instructions are clear and very easy to follow. My husband thought we could do the move on our server. However, it is not setup to handle PHP at this moment. Probably will never be setup for PHP. And to be able to have my design on WordPress, I need PHP and WordPress.org. *sigh* I am extemely disappointed of the delay on the move I intended to do. My other solution would be to use a different host company. At this point in time, I am considering this option however money is the problem. The author suggest DreamHost which is 8.95$ per month. Other companies mentioned in the ebook are BlueHost for 5.95$ per month and LiquidWeb. I also have a friend who have a server which handles PHP. To be honest, I don’t know what to do. *double sigh*
You might think that I am a bit above my head because I didn’t complete the move yet. Let me tell you that I have a Master Degree in IT and that I have seen quite a lot of user documentation while working in government and in private. This document is well done and will help you to go through the process without any glitches. I still want to move my blog to WordPress it’s just that right now I need to wait a bit longer. I have seen the possibilities that WordPress offers while blogging for Woodall’s and I know that the move would be a good one for me. This move is an yearly investment of about 110$. I am considering my options but I am not the kind of person who will jump right away with something. If I could find a way to monetize my blog a bit better, I would use that money for covering the expense of the hosting. With homeschooling my kids, taking care of my family, and reviewing books/products, my time is limited in pursuing this option. As a blogger I know it takes time and dedication to be able to have sponsored posts. I just need to be patient!
If you are interested in moving your blog from Blogger to WordPress, this ebook is definitively what you need. For $35 you will get clear and concise guidelines on how to proceed. And for a limited time, the author is offering a promo code to save 20% on your purchase. Enter the promo code time4wp during your purchase. Click here to view more details
