66 Love Letters - A Conversation with God That Invites You into His Story

66 Love Letters – A Conversation with God That Invites You into His Story
Written by Larry Crabb

About the book
The story of God written in intimate love letters just for you.

Dr. Larry Crabb knows that if we could see the larger story of God and humanity, our world would never be the same. That story is found in large part in the sixty-six letters of the Bible.

Written in a conversational first person, as if God is speaking directly to us, Dr. Crabb looks at each individual book in scripture and boils it down to a one- or two-sentence message to us from that particular book. He then unpacks each sentence in a short chapter answering the question, What does God want me to hear from this love letter? The book's epilogue then fits all sixty-six pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together into one coherent paragraph and reveals the beautiful picture of what God has been about since the creation of the world. Far from being comprehensive, this is a personal approach to helping readers know God and his great love for them, his message for all mankind, and how their lives fit into His larger story.

My Thoughts
This book is simply amazing. It brings you through all the 66 books of the Bible and gives you the main message of each of these books. The author has written it in such a way that it is as though God himself is writing to you and speak to you directly has you advance in this book.

I also think that this book could be good to anyone – new or old seasoned Christians – to be introduced or reminded that God is always present in our lives and that He wants what is best for us. Often, we might have a tendency to think that He is far away from us but it is not the case. He only wants our well-being.

As the author himself says;
“I’m discovering that the more I long to hear what God is saying in the Bible through each chapter (and by chapter, I mean book), the more I get to know God and to realize He can only tell a good story.”
So I am following the suggestion of the author as to taking your time to read this book. Actually, since I am reading through the Bible this year, I am planning to read the chapter related to the book when I am done reading the said book from the Bible. Since I am currently in the book of Joshua, I only have 5 chapters covered from this book but I know that even more interesting love letters are coming my way this year.

Getting this book reminded me of the Father’s Love Letter video that came out a few years ago. It moved me then and this book move me as much if not more than the video.  If you have never seen this video, check it out.

Now let’s get back to the review of 66 Love Letters. Each chapter covers a specific book of the Bible and in it you will read encouragements from God about this specific book. He tells you directly, as if he is writing to you a letter (or an e-mail) about the book of the Bible. Then, at the end of the chapter, the author is writing down what he (or we) feels about the said chapter in an honest way. And at the end of the book, the author writes an epilogue in 66 paragraphs which resumes the story everyone needs to hear.

I am also thinking that this book can be use in an home school setting. It is written in a simple way to make your children understand the basic lessons for each book of the Bible. My oldest son, who will turn 9 this year, could easily sit down and read this book with one chapter per week. And he would learn a lot through it.

If you want to discover God and read his love letters, I suggest that you get a copy of 66 Love Letters and read it along with your Bible.

This review was possible because I received a copy of 66 Love Letters from Thomas Nelson.

66 Love Letters can be purchased at any bookstores even at amazon.ca and indigo.ca.
