A Street Through Time

StreetThroughTime A Street Through Time
Published at DK Canada

About the book

In a series of fourteen intriguing illustrations, the award-winning A Street Through Time tells the story of human history by exploring a street as it evolves from 10,000 BCE to the present day.

Watch the landscape and daily lives of the street's inhabitants change, as the small settlement grows into a city, is struck by war and plague, and gains trade and industry. Throughout, children are asked to study the photos in order to find a time traveler in each scene, as well as to pick out interesting details, encouraging them to pore over the unique illustrations and more easily learn about the historical background.

My Thoughts

Have you ever wondered what a place would looked like if you could go back in time?   Take the city where I was born for example – Montreal.   Through time, it has gone through numerous changes.   It would be interesting to have the ability of going back to the 1500s and see how the Iroquoians lived back then.

Well A Street Through Time is one way to visit history and see the changes of a specific section near a river in a walk through 12000 years.  You will go through various ages and see how the people lived at specific times in history from 10000 BCE to today.   You will experience the Iron Age, the Romans, the Medieval times and much more.

The book will also highlights the life of people during that time period, give vocabulary words, allow you to explore at your own pace and follow a time traveler named Henry Hyde.   You will have the challenge to find Henry Hyde through the pages as he tries to observe without being caught.  The illustrations are packed with details and will bring history to life for whoever is looking at it.   I find this book to be very interesting because you can always find a new detail that you have missed or you can grab it anytime to explore at your own pace.

A Street Through Time is a perfect book to have to complement the history lesson you can cover at home or that your child has at school.   Now only will it give a perspective to what happened in the past but it also stimulate the reader to find details in the pages.   The author will also have another title in March 2013 called A City Through Time.

A Street Through Time is available for purchase at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca and amazon.com.
